What Is the Best Time of Year to Visit Nosara, Costa Rica?
Nosara is great year-round. Dry season (December through April) guarantees sun, while green season (May through November) offers lower prices, fewer crowds, and some of the best surf of the year.
December through April is peak season. Expect sunny skies, warm temperatures in the mid-80s, and essentially no rain. This is when Nosara is busiest - especially January through March when North Americans escape winter. Book accommodations early if you're planning a dry season trip.
Green season gets its name from the lush jungle scenery that comes with the rains. Typically, mornings are sunny and perfect for the beach, with afternoon showers rolling in around 2-4pm. The rain cools things down, and by evening it's clear again. Many surfers prefer this time of year - the swells are bigger and more consistent, and the lineup is far less crowded.
For the best combination of good weather and value, consider the shoulder seasons: early December (before the holiday rush) or late April/early May (as the rains begin). June through August also offers excellent value - you'll get sunny mornings, afternoon showers, great surf, and prices 20-30% lower than peak season.
The only time we'd suggest avoiding is the heart of October - it's the rainiest month and roads can get challenging. But even then, Nosara keeps its magic. We live here year-round and love every season.
